Mission Statement The Linus Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting fun, innovative programs that educate and empower children, encouraging them to reach the full power of their own potential. |
History The Linus Foundation was founded in 2005 by seniors at Washington University in St. Louis. During their tenure at Wash U, these young men developed a strong bond with the local community and, when faced with the reality of graduation, became focused on leaving as beneficial and lasting an effect on St. Louis as it had left on each of them. By hosting social functions and collecting “cover” charges at the door, the foundation raised money for local children’s charities, serving as a “cover” or a “security blanket” for the underprivileged children of the community. The term "security blanket" was first introduced by the Peanuts character Linus Van Pelt. A young philosopher, Linus exemplifies the paradox of childhood: despite the wisdom of his innocence and the power of his potential, he is nonetheless vulnerable, a trait highlighted by his ever-present security blanket. Linus truly represents the children of every community: he is powerful in his potential yet vulnerable in his youth. The Linus Foundation seeks to act as a “security blanket” for the children of local communities, ultimately helping them reach the full power of their potential. |
